Things To Do In Whitstable

There are so many amazing things to do in Whitstable

The beach is a short (5 mins – if you’re slow!) walk away. Come out of the house and walk across the golf course and Ta Da – you’re on the beach! The beach closer to the house is much quieter then by the shops … my advice, enjoy the peace and quiet – you’ll often even in the height of summer be the only person on ‘your’ part of the beach.

Check out my favourites; Windy Corner Stores (amazing breakfasts and fantastic cake and coffee), Jo Jo’s in Tankerton (the best food ever, anywhere!), Wheelers (the little pink place at the end of the high street – book EARLY or you won’t get in – rumours are it deserves a Michelin star!) Samphire (great for brunch and Sunday lunch) .. and don’t forget the freshly made donuts and ice cream at The Forge on the seafront by the Yacht Club … you can smell them a mile away!

The high street has all the usual suspects you should need: Boots, Co Op, etc. If you need groceries, check out the great local butchers, bakers, greengrocers and fishmongers – yes, we really have them all! For every day stuff, go to Budgens – it’s locally run by a great family who really care.

If you get bored of the beach (how could you?!) or the weather changes, you can always head indoors – there’s ten pin bowling and an indoor pool right on the beach by the harbour. There’s bike rides galore and you can hire them on Harbour Street – if you’re up for a longer ride, try out the Crab and Winkle trail to Canterbury. Go a little bit further up towards Tankerton and you will find Whitstable Castle with a great outdoor playground for kids and a lovely cafe for coffee and cakes. You should also nip across the road to the cafe opposite with the most spectacular views across Whitstable Bay.

The ancient cathedral city of Canterbury is a short 15 min drive away with shopping, restaurants, cinema’s and tourist attractions galore. They also have some incredible boat rides around the city – ‘punting’ … if the weather’s warm, there’s no better way to spend the day!
